Year 5 – Diversity Day

Hippo, Wolf

For our first Diversity Day, we explored the country and culture of Japan. There’s so much we could have enjoyed and far too much for a single day, so we focused on youth culture. This meant looking at life in Japan for people our age. We enjoyed trying a range of Japanese snacks, had a karate lesson and watched some (age-appropriate) anime. We really made this a special day by imagining and creating costumes to show a Japanese view of the future – we were using technology to improve our lives. We even cooked our own future snacks, some of which were absolutely delicious. It was an amazing day and we can now reflect on how Japanese life can be both similar and different to our own.
