This week in English we have continued our Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban work. We have looked at spin in newspapers and in the texts we read online. We decided whether we should ‘Go Vegan’ by reading a text of the same name or whether it was better to follow the advice of another text, aptly named – ‘Don’t’ Go Vegan’. We looked at how the authors had used spin to present the same facts and, in a world of fake news, it is important for us to make up our own minds. We applied our learning to decide whether we would spin our own newspaper report to favour Hagrid or condemn him after his hippogriff, Buckbeak, attacked Draco Malfoy. The children, after lots of writing and yet another Independent Write this week, had a chance to work in a group as they performed scenes from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
