EYFS – Promoting mental health

Butterfly, Elephant

This week the children have been taking part in activities to promote their mental health. The focus has been on helping them to understand that we have different emotions and sometimes we all feel sad or worried. We talked about what we should do if we experience these feelings, with a special emphasis on the importance of talking. During our daily mile session we asked the children to choose someone they would like to talk to and share their daily mile with. The children very happily chatted the whole time. It was lovely to hear them sharing their thoughts and feelings. In class we asked the children to think about all the people who helped them and made them feel safe and supported. They used the hot air balloon to demonstrate how all those who help them are their support network and how that network is connected through them. The idea of the hot air balloon is to show how that network supports them and lifts them up. They have really enjoyed these activities and it has helped them to understand how much they are cared for and are never alone.
