Cross Country 2017 / 2018

PE

Cross Country has now become a well established part of PE at Burnham Primary and our children have grown fitter and stronger across the entire school. The first training sessions way back in September 2017, along with training on chilly mornings leading up to Christmas and the extra Friday morning sessions have certainly paid off!

The disappointment was palpable within our vast cross country squad as the local qualifying event was cancelled due to snow in March 2018. Nevertheless, our children continued to train and thankfully we were allowed to enter the entire squad into the area qualifying event held at William de Ferrers. Our children ran hard in tough conditions.

Ultimately four of our children qualified for the county finals. The pinnacle of the cross country season at primary level, was the 2012 Olympic Mountain Biking venue in Hadleigh, to race alongside the best runners from across Essex. On a blistering hot day, running over challenging landscape our children once again did themselves proud and ran to their maximum.

We now have to look to the future and realise that the hard work starts again in September. However, all of our children are very welcome to keep running over the summer months, especially as Sports Day and Dengie Sports will soon be upon us!
