Year 4 Reading Gladiators triumph at the Final Challenge!

On Thursday 14th June, Rosie, Leela, Ella, Carlos, Sofia and Isabelle travelled to Woodville School in South Woodham Ferrers to compete against four other schools in the Reading Gladiator Final Challenge.

The day was split into two parts. First we joined in with presentations on our favourite books. We had chosen Malkin Moonlight, and performed a series of interviews with the characters. Other schools presented plays, quizzes and information based on their favourite books, and Danbury Park’s play about Little Bits of Sky won this section.

Next, the children competed in a six part quiz, which aimed to test their in depth knowledge of the books we have read together over the year. There were tricky questions about characters, setting, authors, a charade round and a very fun final round involving tea towels and ordering the books that the children can tell you all about!

We triumphed in the quiz with a mighty 23 points (the second placed school got 22!) and I was so proud of the children’s team work and knowledge. They were outstanding.

Leela said, ‘This was just a great day!’ We all really enjoyed ourselves and enjoyed  meeting and competing with other local schools. Well done, Gladiators!
