Year 5 Science Week

Hippo, Science, Wolf

For science week, Year Five investigated and designed insects. First, we went outside to study our environment and observe insects in their own habitat. We then designed our own style of insect, thinking about where it would be found and how it adapts its body to survive. In class, we studied and created our own food chains. We thought about how the removal of a part of the food chain influences the survival of other animals. To link our science to maths and art we looked at bilinear symmetry. We used the work of Alex Kohanin to inspire our symmetrical drawings of insects.

To finish off our studies on insects, we used STEM skills to design and create our own bugs. We used a range of material including lego and clay
