Not even snow can stop Burnham Primary’s enthusiasm for reading. Despite the numerous attacks from the ‘Beast from the East’, we managed to have a fantastic, reorganised ‘World Book Day’. Slight drizzle wasn’t enough to stop a whole-school assembly where everyone had a chance to show off their costumes and talk about their love of books.
Throughout the day, each class had a range of book based activities and there was a real buzz around the school. Children were re-enacting scenes from classic books; writing their own; creating book covers using photography and arguing over the greatest books of all time.
Later in the day, class teachers swapped year groups and every child in school had a dramatic, interactive retelling of some of our favourite books. Also, next time you have a chance to visit with us in school, please take a moment to read our book signs – every class are proud to share what they are reading, and even teachers have amazing books to recommend.
A big thank you to all the children that came dressed up and all the adults who helped make that happen.
Here are just a few pictures from our fun day!
