For the academic year 2016/17 the Government has given Burnham on Crouch Primary School a Sports Premium Fund of £9,593 and including previously unspent funds this total increases to £9,861. This initiative has been set up to promote increased participation and competition and to widen the sporting opportunities in primary schools.
How are we spending the Sports Funding and who benefits?
Burnham on Crouch Primary School is driven towards providing sporting opportunities for all of our children. Mr Proudfoot is our full time PE Teacher who provides high quality PE lessons to all children (Reception to Year 6) in our school. By “building and developing” children’s skills in lessons and providing further opportunities to “practice and apply” these skills after school in competitive situations, Burnham Primary will become a competitive and sporting enthused school! The end result being that our children realise the benefits of a healthy active lifestyle and acknowledge the need for lifelong participation, to live a healthy and prosperous life.
We have used the funding to train staff and resource a wide range of clubs; including Multisports, Tennis, Tag Rugby, Kwik Cricket, Football, Dodgeball and indoor Hockey. The extended range of clubs now enables more children to participate. In addition, several specialist coaches are employed, for example in gymnastics and street dance, to provide outstanding provision for our children to refine and enhance their gymnastic and dance skills.
In the first few weeks of term the school has already been awarded the Sportsmanship award by Maldon Rudgy.
