Our Children

We are extremely proud of all of the pupils at Burnham-on-Crouch Primary School.  We believe that every child is individual and special and deserves to feel safe and happy at school.  Our vision is that every child at this school will achieve their full potential both academically and personally, and leave us in Year 6 with fond memories of their time with us.

Our School Community is a happy one where staff, children, parents and governors work together along with members of our wider local community, to provide the best possible education for the children of Burnham-on-Crouch.

We aim to teach pupils to respect themselves, each other and their environment.  Our approach to behaviour management is positive and encouraging with rewards high on the agenda and sanctions used as a last resort.

We value all achievement, whether it be academic, personal or sporting.  Individual successes are celebrated in assemblies, on our website, in our newsletters, the local papers and in the classrooms.

Our Head Boy and Head Girl

July 2010 was an exciting time for Burnham-on-Crouch Primary School as we appointed our third Head Boy and Head Girl.  All of our Year 5 pupils were invited to apply for the post (to commence September 2010) and made a  presentation to their classmates who then voted for their favourites.   4 boys and 4 girls were selected to present their case in front of the whole school.  Emily Broughton, Joanna Neve, Anna Govett and Maisie Duck all spoke about why they should be Head Girl; whilst Luke Baker, Callum Kenebel, Sam Mardle and Freddie Tothill all tried to convince us that they should be Head Boy.  They spoke with a maturity and eloquence way beyond their years bringing a tear to the eyes of many of the adults listening.  Every member of the school then had chance to vote for their favourite candidate.

Freddie Tothill was appointed as Head Boy having received nearly 70% of the votes despite the fact (or maybe because of it) that he opened his speech by suggesting that we need a new headteacher! Maisie Duck was also a clear winner receiving 39% of the votes for Head Girl.

Luke Baker was appointed Deputy Head Boy and Anna Govett Deputy Head Girl.

Prefects

This group of Year 6 children were nominated by staff because they had shown themselves to be reliable, well behaved and trustworthy throughout their time at this school.   Congratulations to Flora Button, George Bass, Lucy Roberts, Kyle Anderson, Joanna Neve, Emily Broughton, Chloe Simmonds, Rose Cornwell, Hugh Search, Arthur Bush, Erin Spackman, Aimee Fearns, Sally Carson, Thomas Damps, Nathan Tracey, Emma Fowler, Callum Kenebel, Eddie Mason, Joshua Trussell, Eloise Rowlands, Sam Mardle, Emily Powell, Niamh Allen and Lauren Smith. The Prefect’s duties include helping out in the dining hall and monitoring the cloakrooms and the playgrounds before and after school.  In previous years they did a fantastic job showing parents and carers to their appointments on Parent’s Evening.  The numerous pages of positive comments in our Visitors’ Book show how much they were appreciated.   All of our Prefects have shown that they are able to carry out their duties in a mature and sensible way, contributing immensely to the running of our school community and enjoying the responsibility of the role.

House Captains

We have also appointed House Captains, who will be responsible for leading their Houses on Sports Day for example, and organising and motivating their teams for other competitions that we plan to run in the future.

Our House Captains are:

Roach - Flora Button and Joanna Neve

Blackwater – Hugh Search and Sally Carson

Chelmer - Callum Kenebel and Sam Mardle

Crouch - George Bass and Emily Powell
