School Dinners

We are very proud of our school dinners at Burnham-on-Crouch Primary School.    In April 2007 we refurbished our school kitchen and dining room and took over responsibility for the catering ourselves.  As a result our dinners are freshly cooked, nutritious, made from locally sourced produce, and most importantly they are delicious!

The children were consulted about the menus and dining environment and we took many of their requests on board.  They now eat from proper plates rather than ‘airline trays’; packed lunches and school dinners sit together at our new sociable tables; they eat a wide range of meals which still includes many of their favourite things; and the adults eat the same food as the children. ( Sadly, we haven’t managed to source a magician or install a glitter ball yet!)  All of this has led to uptake of school meals at this school being as high as 50% on some days.  However, we would like to see even more children benefiting from a healthy balanced meal every lunchtime.

There is a proven link between good nutrition and academic achievement.  When children eat a balanced diet they find it easier to concentrate in the classroom and their behaviour is significantly improved.  We firmly beleive that healthy habits learned in primary school will lead to healthier lifestyles in adulthood.

Parents and carers are always welcome to join us for lunch; please just let the office know in the morning so we can book it for you.
