Isle of Wight trip Monday 24th May 2010
Friday 28th Happy Birthday Louis! Yesterday evening the disco was FANTASTIC! (see the gallery for pictures of how great we looked) Now we are on our way home after a slight delay on the ferry crossing. We started off this morning by visiting Appuldurcombe House – an owl and falcon display was amazing. Whilst visiting the cellars we were encouraged to shout as louldly as we could – we did! The teachers will have a quiet trip back home as a lot of us have lost our voices.
It has been ‘one of the best holidays ever’ to quote one child, but it will be good to see family and friends again. We hope the delay at the ferry doesn’t put us too late back at school.
Thursday 27th Yesterday evening we went to the park for games – football matches were watched, the main game ended in a draw, cricket matches were played, a friendly rounders game took place, badminton, catch and even the parachute came out… We came back to the hotel in time for a drink and biscuit before bed tired but happy.
Then this morning we set off in the rain to the needles. We watched a glass being blown and were shown how this was managed. Next we went into the famous sweet shop -mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A trip to see the Needles came next, it brought our geography lessons to life as it was explained to us how they had been formed. We were able to look back at the shoreline to see the multi coloured sands of Alum Bay.
After lunch we visited Blackgang Chine where we were allowed to try out several of the attractions there.
Now it’s PARTY TIME!
Wednesday 26th The time is just after 5pm and we are resting before our evening meal. So far today we have visited Robin Hill where we went on some AMAZING rides and then visited Amazon World where we had the chance to get up close to some of the animals that lived there. Each day is so different from the one before with new sights and sounds, we don’t have time to get bored. We have written home, but bet we get back before our postcards reach you!
Tonight after dinner sees us heading to the park for some games, it’s all go over here.
Tuesday 25th – Gems from the Isle of Wight…
What’s a baby swan called – a swanling – the logic is a baby duck is a duckling.
What’s a baby swan – a duck! Don’t ask about that one.
What sort of water would you expect to find in the river? answer given was green.
Perhaps our knowledge lacked some depth, but we were complimented on our behaviour yet again by passing members of the public. Doesn’t it make you feel proud
Monday 24th Our Island diary starts. We left school cheerfully very early this morning waving goodbye to our parents on our long awaited trip to the Isle of Wight. On our way we stopped at Guilford Cathedral – really beautiful, then carried on to Portsmouth where we had to wait in turn for our ferry. We dined on board – sounds very posh, thanks for the lunch Mums and Dads. Our first visit was to hunt for fossils – Luke was brilliant at this. Next was back into the coach and off to the hotel, we unpacked then had our evening meal of fish and chips. Finally to round off today we went over to the park for some games before back to the hotel and showers and bed. We can’t wait for fomorrow
At last the day has come! Please remember to be here bright and early at 7.00am in your school shirt and jumper with your packed lunches and coat in your hand luggage. Don’t forget you will have to carry your own suitcase, so be sensible when you pack – we are only going away for a week!
